Enzo Maresca Considers Two Midfield Options for Chelsea’s Number 6 Role Against Wolves

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has discussed his plans for the defensive midfield position ahead of the club’s upcoming clash with Wolves, as Moisés Caicedo is expected to be rested. With Romeo Lavia and Essugo unavailable, Maresca is exploring alternative options to anchor the midfield.

“We used Andrey there, Reece can play as a 6 and Josh can play as a 6,” Maresca explained, highlighting the flexibility within his squad.

The trio of Andrey Santos, Reece James, and Josh Acheampong provides Maresca with tactical variety as he seeks to maintain control in midfield — a crucial factor against a physically strong Wolves side.

The Chelsea boss also stressed the importance of rotation during a demanding campaign, adding: “It’s impossible to play with the same players for 65 games in a single season.”

As the Blues continue to navigate injuries and fixture congestion, Maresca’s willingness to adapt could prove decisive in sustaining consistency across competitions
