Speculation surrounding Zinedine Zidane’s potential move to Liverpool has intensified, with betting odds sharply reduced on the French legend becoming the next manager at Anfield.
Earlier in the season, Liverpool appeared to be thriving under Arne Slot. Following their 2–1 victory over Southampton in the Carabao Cup, the Reds had kicked off the 2025/26 campaign with seven consecutive wins across all competitions. However, just a month later, that strong start has unraveled.
Liverpool are now enduring a run of four straight Premier League defeats, including a disappointing 3–2 loss to Brentford over the weekend. The poor form has put Slot under increasing pressure, with sections of the fanbase questioning his future at the club.
Amid this uncertainty, Zidane has emerged as a leading candidate to replace him. According to Betfair, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner remains the current favourite at 3/1, followed by Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola at 4/1. Zidane is now third in the running at 9/2, while Germany’s national team coach Julian Nagelsmann is listed at 7/1. A dramatic return for Jurgen Klopp is also on the cards at 9/1.
What Zidane Has Said About Liverpool
Zidane has long spoken with admiration about Liverpool and their iconic home ground. When asked about the best away stadiums he had experienced, he mentioned Anfield alongside Old Trafford, calling both unforgettable venues.
Ahead of Real Madrid’s clash with Liverpool in 2021, Zidane described the Merseyside club as a “complete team,” praising their strength and balance across all areas of the pitch.
“They’re a complete team,” Zidane said. “People often highlight their front three, and it’s true they’re excellent, but the entire squad is strong and well-organised. We’ll have to be alert.”
However, Zidane has previously admitted that language could pose a challenge if he were to manage in England. Speaking to L’Équipe in 2022, he explained: “I understand English, but I don’t fully master it. Some coaches go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work differently.”
While his respect for Liverpool is clear, it remains to be seen whether Zidane will be tempted to make the leap to the Premier League should the opportunity arise.
