FIFPro Criticizes Overloaded Football Schedules: “Players Are Treated as Resources, Not People”
The International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro) has strongly condemned the current congested fixture schedules, emphasizing that footballers are being overworked and undervalued.
In their statement, FIFPro said: “Players are treated like limitless resources rather than human beings. Those who are overplayed risk both their physical and mental well-being. Despite repeated discussions this year about reforming calendars to protect players’ health and ensure adequate rest, no concrete measures have been implemented. A more humane, rational approach to football was promised, but it remains unfulfilled.”
The organization also criticized the Club World Cup, stating that it prioritizes revenue over the welfare of players and fans alike. According to FIFPro, there is a lack of planning, prevention, and respect—driven solely by financial interests.
FIFPro further accused FIFA of acting arrogantly, failing to listen or engage in meaningful dialogue, and excluding important stakeholders from decision-making in the football industry.
