Robbie Fowler Warns Liverpool Are Feeling the Loss of £65m Star Luis Diaz
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has expressed concern over the club’s struggles following the summer sale of Luis Diaz. The former striker believes Diaz’s departure has created a significant gap in the team, leaving manager Arne Slot with challenges that remain unresolved.
Diaz, who joined Bayern Munich for £65 million after three and a half years at Anfield, was a key attacking figure for Liverpool. His exit came during a hectic summer in which the Reds also lost Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliot, and Jarell Quansah. Despite investing over £450 million in new players, Liverpool’s campaign has started inconsistently, with five defeats from 11 league matches, leaving them eight points behind leaders Arsenal.
Fowler points to Liverpool’s attacking struggles, including the reduced impact of Mohamed Salah and slow starts from Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, linking many of these issues to Diaz’s absence. While Liverpool were eager to retain the Colombian winger, Fowler is surprised that more attention has not been given to just how much the team misses his presence.
“I’m not entirely sure why he left, but it seemed he wanted the move,” Fowler told Metro. “He was one of Liverpool’s standout performers last year, and it’s clear they are feeling his absence. Diaz is the kind of player who can unlock defenses, which Liverpool have struggled to do this season.”
Fowler also touched on the departure of academy graduate Tyler Morton, who joined Lyon after a season with minimal opportunities under Slot. While Morton’s future in England is uncertain, Fowler believes he has the talent to succeed and hopes that one day it will be recognized that selling him was a mistake.
“Morton has proven his ability in midfield, but he didn’t get the chance under this manager. I hope he continues to grow because he’s a local player who worked hard through the academy. I want to see him succeed,” Fowler added.
