Nuno Mendes Quashes PSG Exit Rumors Amid Manchester United Speculation

Fans dreaming of seeing Nuno Mendes don the Manchester United jersey will have to wait a little longer. The talented Portuguese left-back has decisively shut down months of transfer speculation, confirming that he has no plans to leave Paris Saint-Germain anytime soon. Mendes expressed his happiness and commitment to the French giants, emphasizing that both he and the club’s management are aligned in their ambitions.

For over a year, Manchester United have reportedly been monitoring Mendes as they searched for stability on the left flank. Despite persistent rumors linking him to Old Trafford, the 23-year-old has made it clear that a Premier League switch is not on the horizon. In a candid interview with Ouest France, Mendes explained, “No. My agent spoke extensively with the president. I always wanted to continue here, to contribute to PSG’s success at the highest level. It was a mutual decision, and it’s a pleasure to play here.” His remarks signal a firm commitment to the club’s long-term project under Luis Enrique.

Mendes’ development at PSG has been remarkable. After extending his contract last season, he has grown into a vital part of the team, seamlessly combining defensive reliability with his trademark attacking skills. Early in his career, Mendes admits that his defensive capabilities lagged behind his offensive strengths, but under the guidance of Luis Enrique, he has transformed into one of Europe’s most complete full-backs.

Reflecting on his evolution, Mendes noted, “At the beginning, I wasn’t very strong in defense. Luis Enrique recognized that and worked with me to improve. Today, I feel confident contributing both defensively and offensively.” This transformation has contributed to one of the most dynamic full-back pairings in football, with Mendes on the left and Achraf Hakimi on the right, able to both dismantle opposition attacks and provide width in attack.

Interestingly, Mendes’ journey began as a winger, not a defender. Laughing about the transition, he said, “It wasn’t my choice initially, but now I feel completely at ease as a full-back, balancing defensive duties and attacking freedom.” Despite ongoing admiration from Manchester United, Mendes’ stance leaves little doubt: Paris remains his home, and his focus is squarely on helping PSG maintain their position at the pinnacle of European football.
