Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been urged to make a crucial decision if he intends to remain in charge, following another disappointing performance from his team.
The Reds were hoping to respond positively after a heavy 3–0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, returning to Anfield for a Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven. Instead, the night began in the worst possible manner as Virgil van Dijk conceded an early penalty through an unusual handball incident.
Ivan Perisic converted from the spot, but Dominik Szoboszlai equalised shortly after. Despite the early response, Liverpool’s problems deepened in the second half. Goals from Guus Til and a brace from Couhab Driouech condemned the Premier League champions to a third consecutive match conceding at least three goals, extending a disastrous run to nine defeats in their last twelve games.
While multiple issues are plaguing the team, supporters directed significant frustration at Cody Gakpo for his performance against his former club. Many fans took to social media demanding that Slot remove him from the starting lineup, describing his display as ineffective and questioning why he continues to start regularly.
Since joining Liverpool in January 2023, Gakpo has scored 45 goals in 146 appearances in all competitions, including four this season, but his recent form has drawn growing criticism.
Mounting Pressure on Arne Slot
Despite more than £400 million spent on summer signings, Liverpool have entered a steep decline, intensifying the scrutiny on Slot. Although his contract runs until 2027, the team’s alarming slump has fuelled speculation about his future and potential replacements.
Following the defeat to Forest, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that no managerial contacts had been made. However, the club hierarchy expects rapid improvement, both in results and performances, as pressure continues to build on Slot
