Liverpool are reportedly assessing their managerial options as pressure mounts on Arne Slot, with the club’s hierarchy identifying a potential long-term replacement while also considering a short-term return for Jurgen Klopp.
Sources suggest that Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has emerged as a leading candidate if Liverpool decide to make a permanent change. The club’s leadership is said to admire Enrique’s tactical pedigree and international experience, viewing him as a strong fit for the long-term direction of the team.
Liverpool’s recent form has intensified the scrutiny on Slot. The team have lost nine of their last twelve matches, a severe downturn that derailed their Premier League title defense before the Christmas period. A 4–1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League—Liverpool’s third consecutive loss by at least three goals—marked their worst run of heavy defeats in more than seven decades.
Slot, who delivered the Premier League title in his first season, is now facing growing pressure in his second year despite the club spending more than £400 million over the summer. Although senior figures at the club continue to support him, Curtis Jones’ candid comments following the PSV loss highlighted the level of frustration within the squad.
Klopp, who ended a nine-year tenure at Anfield last season, has reportedly surfaced as the most realistic short-term solution should the club opt for an interim appointment. Now overseeing global football operations at Red Bull, Klopp has never completely closed the door on a managerial return. According to reports, Liverpool may approach him to guide the team through the remainder of the campaign if results do not improve quickly.
Enrique, however, is believed to be the preferred long-term choice. The former Barcelona and Spain manager led PSG to a long-awaited Champions League title last season and has previously expressed a desire to work in the Premier League. In 2023, he stated that he would be interested only in a club capable of competing for major honours, suggesting he would consider a move to England’s top clubs.
