Ahmed Elmohamady Defends Mohamed Salah, Slams Jamie Carragher’s Criticism

Egyptian football star Ahmed Elmohamady has strongly responded to former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher’s comments about Mohamed Salah. Elmohamady criticized Carragher for undermining Salah’s journey, emphasizing the Egyptian forward’s remarkable rise to global prominence.

“Jamie, your remarks are completely unfair,” Elmohamady said. “Mohamed Salah has rewritten his career story through relentless hard work, humility, and world-class performances. He never truly ‘failed’ at Chelsea—he simply wasn’t given the opportunity to showcase his talent there. Instead, he moved to Italy, rebuilt his career, and eventually joined Liverpool, where he has become a Premier League legend, Egypt’s greatest-ever footballer, and one of the most consistent forwards of his generation.”

Elmohamady also highlighted Salah’s impact on the international stage, noting that the forward has carried the Egyptian national team for years, leading them to World Cup qualification twice after a long absence. “Everything Salah has achieved has been earned through dedication and performance,” Elmohamady added.

He further took a pointed swipe at Carragher, referencing other football icons who have publicly challenged Carragher’s assessments. Elmohamady remarked, “It’s no surprise you were overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo, called out by Messi, and even criticized by Mourinho, who considered you below average and not among the top 1,000 defenders in Premier League history.”

This defense by Elmohamady reinforces the narrative of Salah as a player who overcame early setbacks to achieve global recognition and cements his legacy as one of football’s elite talents
