The defeat continued Chelsea’s poor run of form, with the team now winless in four matches and slipping to eleventh in the Champions League league-phase table. Their Premier League momentum has also collapsed, despite sitting second only weeks earlier.
Maresca’s early promise has faded, and criticism is growing over his constant squad rotation and tactical decisions. Many supporters are particularly frustrated by Reece James being used in midfield and the club’s lack of reliable attacking options after allowing Nicolas Jackson to leave.
