John Obi Mikel Insists Chelsea Still Need Victor Osimhen’s Proven Firepower

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has once again thrown his support behind a potential move for Victor Osimhen to Stamford Bridge, insisting the Nigerian striker would offer something the club is currently missing.

Chelsea opted not to deviate from their long-term recruitment strategy in recent windows, choosing to invest in younger attacking options such as Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. While that approach aligns with the club’s vision for the future, Mikel believes it leaves a crucial gap in the squad that only an experienced, elite striker can fill.

According to Mikel, Osimhen represents the complete forward. He highlighted the striker’s ability to stretch defences with runs in behind, drop deep to link play, and consistently deliver goals when it matters most. In his view, these qualities set Osimhen apart and make him the ideal profile to lead Chelsea’s attack.

Mikel stressed the importance of having a forward who understands the pressure of big occasions. He argued that Chelsea need a striker who has already proven himself at the highest level, someone who knows how to win decisive matches and instinctively positions himself in dangerous areas.

Osimhen’s current form only strengthens that argument. Now playing for Galatasaray, the 27-year-old has already scored 12 goals for the Turkish side, including six in the Champions League. On the international stage, he has also been central to Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, scoring four times in five matches ahead of the semi-final clash with Algeria.

For Mikel, the message is clear. While youth and potential are valuable, Chelsea still need a seasoned goal scorer with experience, leadership, and a proven record in high-stakes games. In his eyes, Victor Osimhen fits that description perfectly.
