Real Madrid CF were reportedly very close to securing the signature of Gianluca Prestianni during the 2023 winter transfer window.
At the time, the highly rated Argentine talent was playing for Vélez Sarsfield in the country’s top division, where his performances quickly attracted attention from Europe’s biggest clubs.
Sources indicate that both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona made direct contact with the player’s representatives as they monitored his rapid development. The Spanish giants reportedly viewed Prestianni as one of South America’s most promising young attackers, capable of becoming a long-term project signing.
Despite the strong interest from La Liga heavyweights, the move never materialised. Instead, Prestianni completed a transfer to SL Benfica in January 2024, with the Portuguese club continuing its strategy of recruiting elite young prospects before they explode onto the global stage.
His decision to join Benfica is seen as a strategic step, offering regular development opportunities in Europe while maintaining exposure to top-level competition.
With Real Madrid and Barcelona previously circling, many believe it may only be a matter of time before one of Europe’s elite clubs reignites interest if Prestianni continues his upward trajectory.
