Liverpool Close to Sealing Frimpong Transfer with €40m Clause Set to Be Triggered

Liverpool are reportedly close to completing the signing of Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 24-year-old played a key role in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title-winning season and is now preparing for a potential summer move to Anfield.

Transfer Nears Completion
According to German source Kicker, the deal is in its advanced stages. Liverpool are prepared to meet Frimpong’s €40 million release clause, and he is expected to agree to a five-year contract with the Premier League champions. His departure from the German side now appears imminent.

Frimpong has stood out in the Bundesliga with his pace, technique, and attacking prowess—qualities that make him a natural candidate to succeed Trent Alexander-Arnold. Alexander-Arnold is set to leave Liverpool on a free transfer and join Real Madrid.

Filling Big Shoes
Alexander-Arnold has been crucial to Liverpool not only for his defensive role but also for his creativity and playmaking. Liverpool are looking to replicate that impact with Frimpong, though questions remain about the Dutchman’s defensive consistency.

Still, the move marks a significant step in Frimpong’s career. A former Manchester City academy player, he qualifies as homegrown in the Premier League, which adds further value to the deal. He’ll be looking to make an immediate impression in English football.
