Any remaining optimism that Liverpool might secure a promising European defender has been quashed following an update from Fabrizio Romano.
The well-known transfer expert revealed on X that Dean Huijsen is set to join Real Madrid. A medical is already in progress, and all terms have been finalized.
“BREAKING: Real Madrid agree all details of deal to sign Dean Huijsen, here we go!” Romano posted. “Huijsen undergoing medical NOW then set to sign five-year deal until 2030. Real Madrid will pay £50m to Bournemouth.”
Huijsen, 20, has stood out during his time with Bournemouth and was linked to Liverpool in several reports. However, hopes of him arriving at Anfield have now been dashed.
The move was reportedly driven by incoming Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso, who was eager to bring in the Dutch-born center-back.
Liverpool are expected to prioritize strengthening their defense this summer, with current depth in the position still a concern. Manager Arne Slot has previously emphasized the need to reinforce the squad for the upcoming season.
Although Huijsen is no longer an option, Liverpool will now turn their attention to other defensive targets as they aim to build on their recent title-winning campaign under Slot’s leadership
