Liverpool have reportedly reached a decision regarding whether to allow Trent Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid before the official end of his contract.
Earlier this month, it was officially confirmed that the 26-year-old defender will leave Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract expires. Alexander-Arnold shared the emotional news in a heartfelt social media video, describing his departure as the most difficult choice of his life. He expressed deep gratitude for the love and support he’s received during his two decades at the club, from the Academy to the first team.
With his current deal ending on June 30, it is widely anticipated that he will join Real Madrid as a free agent. However, with the FIFA Club World Cup set to kick off on June 15, Madrid are keen to have him available before that date.
To make that happen, both clubs are reportedly negotiating a compensation fee. According to Spanish outlet Diario AS, as cited by Madrid Zone, Real Madrid have agreed to pay Liverpool €2 million to release Alexander-Arnold early, allowing him to join the squad in time for the tournament.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development, stating on social media: “Real Madrid have offered €2M to Liverpool for Trent to play at the Club World Cup.”
Meanwhile, in Liverpool’s most recent match—Alexander-Arnold’s first appearance since the news of his departure—he was met with boos from some fans as he came on to replace Conor Bradley against Arsenal. Teammate Mohamed Salah expressed disappointment over the crowd’s reaction, stating that Alexander-Arnold deserved better treatment for all he had contributed to the club.
