A Strategic Move by Pérez Lands Real Madrid a Major Signing for the Season: €35 Million Deal Finalized with Manchester United!

Real Madrid is intensifying its efforts to secure new players ahead of the Club World Cup. After officially announcing the acquisition of Huyssen and ongoing talks with Liverpool over Arnold, the club has now turned its attention to strengthening the left-back position. Their primary target is Álvaro Carreras, a former academy player who has made a name for himself since leaving Madrid.

Currently playing for Benfica, Carreras has caught Real Madrid’s eye as a potential addition. However, Benfica is reluctant to part with him easily, pointing to a hefty €50 million release clause. Madrid hopes to negotiate that price down.

In a surprising twist reported by the Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Manchester United — who transferred Carreras to Benfica last summer — could play a key role. The club had included an €18 million buy-back clause and is now considering triggering it, then selling Carreras to Madrid for around €35 million. This would benefit both clubs financially, allowing Madrid to save on the transfer and giving United a profit.

Despite the potential deal, Carreras is reportedly not in favor of this plan. According to journalist Ramon de Mon, the player has expressed his loyalty to Benfica and would rather see any transfer negotiated directly with the Portuguese club, so they receive full financial compensation.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid has completed the signing of Huyssen, who will join on June 1 and may take part in the Club World Cup. The club hopes to finalize a similar deal for Arnold soon.

No final decision regarding Carreras is expected before May 25, especially since Benfica has also qualified for the Club World Cup and is unlikely to release the player before the tournament ends.
