Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool are nearing their second defensive signing of the summer transfer window, following the imminent arrival of Jeremie Frimpong.
Although Frimpong’s move hasn’t been officially confirmed, Romano gave his signature “here we go” on Tuesday, indicating that the 24-year-old Dutch right-back has completed his medical in Merseyside.
Liverpool’s attention is now turning to the left side of defense, with the club pursuing Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez. The south coast club is reportedly open to offers starting around £45 million.
Talks Progressing for Kerkez Transfer
In an update on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Liverpool are making progress in talks to sign the Hungarian left-back. He stated that personal terms are close to being agreed, and Kerkez is keen to make the move.
Romano said:
“Liverpool are progressing in negotiations with Kerkez, who is excited about joining the club. Contract talks are advanced, and he’s enthusiastic about the transfer.”
However, he noted that the final step is an agreement between the two clubs. Bournemouth, having recently sold Dean Huijsen for £50 million, are not under financial pressure and are standing firm on their valuation.
Romano emphasized:
“Kerkez is a key target, and Liverpool are actively pursuing the deal. We’ll see if they can get it over the line.”
Kerkez Tipped to Make a Big Impact at Anfield
Kerkez’s performances for Bournemouth this season have caught attention, with Gary Neville naming him in his Premier League Team of the Season and labeling him “sensational.”
With Andy Robertson aging and reportedly declining in form, and Kostas Tsimikas attracting interest from Leeds, Liverpool appear to be planning for the future at left-back. Adding the 21-year-old Kerkez would bring youthful energy and long-term potential to the position.
Although Bournemouth’s £45m valuation might seem high, Kerkez’s talent and age could make him a valuable long-term investment for the Reds.
If Liverpool’s new sporting director Richard Hughes can land Kerkez following the Frimpong deal, it would signal a highly successful start to the club’s summer transfer campaign
