Alvarez arrived last summer in a major €75 million deal, with an additional €20 million in potential bonuses, making him the second most expensive signing in Atletico’s history behind Joao Felix. He signed a long-term deal through 2030, with a release clause believed to be over €150 million.
The player and his family have settled well in Madrid, with several relatives relocating and his brothers even joining a local team composed of Argentine players. This strong personal connection to the city strengthens Atletico’s belief that Alvarez is happy and unlikely to leave.
Club president Enrique Cerezo dismissed the Barcelona rumors, saying, “Julian is happy here and we expect him to stay. I think he’ll continue to grow and finish his career at Atletico.” On the topic of Barcelona’s interest, Cerezo jokingly added, “I like Yamal too—we share the same taste,” signaling that the club is not taking the reports seriously.
