Arne Slot faces surprise departure shortly after winning Premier League as Liverpool begins search for replacement
Liverpool may experience an unexpected exit just days after securing the Premier League title.
This season has been remarkable for the Reds, clinching the 2024/25 Premier League crown in Arne Slot’s debut year as manager.
On Sunday, Liverpool celebrated lifting the trophy at Anfield after a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
Looking ahead to the summer, Liverpool is expected to be busy in the transfer market, with players like Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez reportedly linked with moves to Anfield.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Slot’s assistant, John Heitinga, is close to leaving the club, and the search for his replacement has already begun.
Romano posted on social media: “EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool has allowed John Heitinga to enter talks with Ajax as he nears a deal to become their head coach. Liverpool have also started looking for potential replacements if this transfer happens, which seems likely.”
John Heitinga’s departure is gaining traction, as he has been connected with a move away from Liverpool.
Last summer, Slot explained why he chose Heitinga, a former Everton player, as his assistant. He highlighted Heitinga’s Premier League experience as a player and coach, noting their similar playing styles would help him quickly adapt to Liverpool’s approach.
Heitinga played over 140 matches for Everton, then had spells at Fulham, Hertha BSC, and Ajax before retiring and moving into coaching roles at Ajax and West Ham United prior to joining Liverpool.
