In a surprising public statement, former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has called on the club and new head coach Arne Slot to move quickly to sign Atalanta’s standout midfielder, Ederson. Klopp stressed that any delay could be a costly mistake for the Reds.
“Liverpool and Arne Slot would be making a big error if they pass on him,” Klopp allegedly said. “Ederson has been outstanding for Atalanta, and with his clear interest in joining Liverpool, the opportunity is there. He’s arguably better than any midfielder currently at the club—maybe with one exception. This isn’t the time for hesitation. If they want to compete seriously, they need to act now.”
Ederson, a 25-year-old Brazilian international, played a key role in Atalanta’s recent Europa League success and has attracted interest from several major clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Manchester City. Atalanta is said to have set his price at around €60 million (£51 million).
The midfielder has shown willingness to consider a move, saying, “I enjoy Italy, but I’m intrigued by the Premier League. If Atalanta get an offer, it’s their call.”
While Liverpool has already revamped its midfield with the signings of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch, Klopp’s remarks suggest that Ederson could further enhance their squad.
