After officially securing a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League, Chelsea FC is stepping up efforts to sign Nico Williams, the talented winger from Athletic Club in Spain.
The club is currently assessing the financial aspects of the potential transfer, including Williams’ release clause, which is believed to be around €50 million (£42.5 million). They are also reviewing the player’s expected salary and image rights, both of which are expected to play a major role in any final deal.
Incoming Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly a big fan of Williams and sees him as a great fit for the club’s tactical plans, particularly on the left wing. Williams’ pace, creativity, and high work rate align with the direction Maresca wants to take the team.
While Williams is currently focused on international duty with Spain ahead of UEFA EURO 2024, Chelsea’s Champions League qualification gives them a stronger position in negotiations.
