Lewandowski on Lamine Yamal: “His Potential Has No Limits”

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has spoken with high regard about 17-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal, offering a glimpse into the young winger’s meteoric rise. Reflecting on Yamal’s early days with the senior team at just 15, Lewandowski recalled how the youngster’s talent was instantly noticeable.

“Right away, we could see how special he was,” said Lewandowski. “His confidence, sharp thinking, and ball control stood out. I’ve never seen someone that young so composed.” He highlighted Yamal’s impressive tactical awareness and communication—qualities often seen in more experienced players.

Lewandowski also praised the teenager’s humility and dedication, which quickly earned him the respect of his teammates.

However, the Polish veteran also offered some words of caution. “Defenders will start studying him closely next season. How he handles that extra attention will be crucial,” he explained. He stressed the importance of both physical and mental recovery following Yamal’s intense debut season. “Rest is just as vital as training,” he added.

He emphasized the role of senior players in mentoring young talents. “We guide him on things like positioning, but also how to handle pressure and expectations,” Lewandowski noted. “Mental strength is what truly defines a football legend.”

Recalling a standout moment in training, Lewandowski said Yamal’s dribbling reminded him of Lionel Messi. “He danced past defenders effortlessly. Xavi and I exchanged looks—it was unforgettable,” he said. Still, he urged against labeling Yamal as “the next Messi,” stressing the importance of letting him build his own identity.

Looking ahead, Lewandowski is confident in Yamal’s future. “With the right mindset, he could become a central figure for Barcelona for years to come,” he said, also crediting the club for managing Yamal’s development wisely by balancing playing time and rest.

As the new season approaches, Lewandowski embraces his evolving role. “It’s no longer just about goals—it’s about mentoring the future,” he said.
