Arsène Wenger Urges Arsenal to Sign Alexander Isak

Former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has named the one player he believes his old club must sign during the upcoming transfer window—Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. Wenger, the most decorated manager in Arsenal’s history with three Premier League titles (including the famous “Invincibles” season), seven FA Cups, and seven Community Shields, shared his thoughts during a recent conversation with former goalkeeper David Seaman.

Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast , Seaman recalled asking Wenger who he’d prioritize if still managing Arsenal. Wenger’s answer was immediate: “Isak.”

Legendary Arsenal striker Ian Wright, who also appeared on the podcast, fully supported Wenger’s view, calling Isak a “brilliant” talent and emphasizing the recommendation was not meant as a slight to Newcastle.

Although Isak was linked with a move to Arsenal during the January transfer window, he stayed at Newcastle. With Arsenal now reportedly pursuing RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško, it’s unclear if Isak will remain at St. James’ Park or consider a high-profile switch.

Key stat: Isak has scored twice in five matches against Arsenal in his career.
The 25-year-old had a stellar 2024/25 Premier League season, recording 23 goals and six assists—his highest goal contribution tally to date—and played a key role in securing Newcastle’s Champions League qualification. He also netted in their Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool in February
