‘It could have broken my leg twice!’: Alexis Mac Allister reflects on James Tarkowski’s tackle that didn’t earn a red card

During the Merseyside derby last April, Alexis Mac Allister endured a brutal tackle from James Tarkowski. Despite the severity, the Everton defender was only given a yellow card, a decision later admitted as incorrect by PGMOL.

After the incident, Mac Allister accepted Tarkowski’s apology. But looking back now, he’s still shocked by the referee’s call, though relieved it wasn’t worse.

“It could’ve broken my leg twice!” the Liverpool midfielder said.

“The fact Tarkowski wasn’t sent off is unbelievable. If my foot had been planted, my leg would have snapped completely.

“At the moment, I knew it was too harsh. But what really surprised me was Tarkowski’s expression as he went in for the tackle.

“I wouldn’t say he intended to break me, but I was definitely lucky considering how he went into it.”
