Liverpool have seen three bids rejected in their pursuit of German star Florian Wirtz, but the club is reportedly preparing a fourth and possibly final attempt to land the 22-year-old from Bayer Leverkusen.
Their most recent offer was worth £113 million, including add-ons, but that still fell short of Leverkusen’s £126.5 million valuation. However, Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is expected to return with another bid, and reports from Germany suggest a deal may soon be within reach.
What Will Liverpool Offer in Their Fourth Bid?
According to Bild, Leverkusen are now awaiting a “final written offer” from Liverpool, with negotiations said to have made substantial progress. The anticipated fourth bid will reportedly be a package worth €140 million (around £118 million), combining a base transfer fee with realistic performance-related add-ons. Some bonuses may be included, though these are said to be “very difficult to achieve.”
While the proposed total still doesn’t quite match Leverkusen’s original asking price, sources suggest the deal could be finalized in the next few days. Florian Plettenberg even reports that Wirtz could undergo a medical later this week.
Is £118 Million Enough?
Encouragingly for Liverpool, Wirtz came through Germany’s recent Nations League defeat to France without injury, avoiding a potential obstacle that might have derailed talks. With international duties now complete, negotiations can progress without further complications.
The £118 million package may be enough to convince Leverkusen to proceed. Journalist Lewis Steele of the Daily Mail claims that’s the amount the German side have realistically been seeking, and that the current focus is on ironing out minor details and bonus clauses.
Although it’s still below the initially reported £126.5 million figure, the proposed amount might be sufficient to trigger an agreement and move the transfer forward. If all goes well, Wirtz could be undergoing his medical on Merseyside within days.
