A major European club has made a bold move to lure away one of Liverpool’s most dependable stars, but the player’s response was swift and decisive.
Changes are already underway in Liverpool’s goalkeeping lineup. Giorgi Mamardashvili has joined the squad, stepping in as backup to Alisson Becker following Caoimhin Kelleher’s £18 million switch to Brentford. Meanwhile, Vitezslav Jaros is reportedly attracting loan interest from Ajax.
Mamardashvili, a Georgian international, is set to serve as Alisson’s understudy. The Brazilian has been the Reds’ undisputed number one since 2018, a key reason why Kelleher struggled to secure a regular starting spot.
Galatasaray Approach Alisson – But He’s Not Interested
On Saturday, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg shared via X that Galatasaray—who will also compete in the 2025/26 Champions League—recently made a firm approach for Alisson. The Brazilian’s response was clear: he’s staying put.
Plettenberg reported: “Galatasaray are still actively searching for a top goalkeeper! Among others, they made a concrete enquiry for Alisson a few weeks ago. However, he declined – he is under contract with Liverpool until 2027.”
Alisson Has No Intention of Leaving Liverpool
The Turkish side has a history of eyeing Liverpool talent. They reportedly considered a move for Ryan Gravenberch last summer, though he went on to become a key player in Liverpool’s Premier League-winning campaign.
Their interest in Alisson appears similarly optimistic. The 32-year-old goalkeeper, labeled “world-class” by BBC pundit Stephen Warnock after a standout performance against PSG in March, had an outstanding 2024/25 season.
In 35 games, Alisson kept 13 clean sheets (a 37.1% rate), conceded just 33 goals (under one per match), and posted a save rate of 72%. Arsenal’s David Raya even named him one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
While Galatasaray’s interest is understandable, Alisson has made it crystal clear he’s committed to Liverpool. He remains under contract until 2027 and intends to see it through.
Though Mamardashvili is seen as his eventual successor, Alisson will continue as Liverpool’s undisputed first choice for now – and rightly so
