According to a report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool is currently engaged in discussions over a high-profile swap deal involving Napoli’s Victor Osimhen—widely hailed as one of the best strikers in world football.
Fresh off a dominant Premier League title win, Liverpool is showing no signs of slowing down during the summer transfer window. Under new manager Arne Slot, the Reds have already made significant moves, securing Dutch wing-back Jeremie Frimpong and reaching a record agreement for German playmaker Florian Wirtz. Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez is also set to arrive from Bournemouth.
Now, attention has turned to bolstering the club’s attacking line, with Liverpool initiating talks over a possible deal for 26-year-old Osimhen. The striker, who returned to Napoli after a loan spell at Galatasaray, had a phenomenal season—scoring 37 goals and providing 8 assists across 41 games, helping his side win both the Turkish Super Lig and Cup.
Nigeria manager Eric Chelle recently called Osimhen “the best striker in the world” in a BBC Sport Africa interview, and it’s no surprise the Nigerian star is attracting interest from top clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Real Madrid.
TEAMtalk reports that Liverpool is now the ninth club to express serious interest and is contemplating offering Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa as part of a potential swap deal. Though Osimhen may not be Slot’s top transfer target, he is now firmly on Liverpool’s radar.
Talks between Liverpool and Napoli have begun, aided by intermediaries. Napoli manager Antonio Conte reportedly values both Nunez and Chiesa highly. Nunez joined Liverpool in 2022 for £64 million, while Chiesa signed from Juventus last summer but has struggled with injuries.
It’s during ongoing conversations about Nunez and Chiesa that Osimhen’s name surfaced, and both players could be included in a complex exchange deal.
Liverpool has also reached out to Osimhen’s representatives. The striker is reportedly open to joining a club competing in the Champions League, something that gives Liverpool an edge. However, his wage demands could pose a challenge. Offloading Nunez and Chiesa could potentially save Liverpool around £15 million a year, money that could be redirected toward covering Osimhen’s salary.
