Liverpool have officially sealed the £60 million acquisition of a top South American talent.
Meanwhile, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shared an update that will interest Liverpool fans regarding Hugo Ekitike.
According to a previous report by Florian Plettenberg (via X), Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea are all tracking the Eintracht Frankfurt striker. Romano now says the 22-year-old hasn’t made a final decision and remains open to his options.
Romano Confirms Liverpool Still Eyeing Ekitike
In a video update, Romano noted that Darwin Nunez is “expected to leave” Anfield this summer, despite public support from Stan Collymore. He also mentioned that Liverpool’s ownership group, FSG, has been quietly working to secure Ekitike’s transfer.
“With Darwin likely on his way out, Ekitike has become a key target for Liverpool,” Romano said. “Talks with the player’s agents began in May and communication has continued regularly. Liverpool remain very much in the race.”
Ekitike Could Be a More Feasible Target Than Isak
Plettenberg also reported that Manchester United have made direct contact with Ekitike’s representatives, adding urgency to Liverpool’s interest.
If Nunez departs this summer, Liverpool would need to secure a reliable forward quickly. Though Diogo Jota is highly skilled, his injury record raises concerns.
While journalist Lewis Steele believes Ekitike may not be at the same level as Alexander Isak, the Frankfurt forward presents a more affordable alternative — especially since Liverpool have already spent £116 million on Florian Wirtz.
Liverpool’s persistent communication with Ekitike’s camp suggests they are preparing for a potential Nunez exit and want to be ready to move swiftly for the French U21 star.
With strong interest from rivals like Chelsea and United, Liverpool will need to act decisively to win the race.
