Liverpool are intensifying their efforts to sign a rising star who has caught the attention of multiple Premier League teams.
While fans await official confirmation of Florian Wirtz’s record-breaking transfer from Bayer Leverkusen—with the player set for a medical on Friday (per David Ornstein)—and Milos Kerkez’s near-finalised move from Bournemouth, sporting director Richard Hughes is reportedly eyeing more reinforcements from across Europe.
Discussions Begin with Malick Fofana’s New Representatives
As reported by L’Equipe, Liverpool have initiated discussions with Malick Fofana’s new agents following the winger’s switch to Roc Nation Sports, an agency that also manages players like Vinicius Junior, Martinelli, Endrick, and De Bruyne.
Chelsea have also made early enquiries into a potential transfer for the 20-year-old, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Nottingham Forest. Lyon, facing financial pressure, have valued the winger at €50m (£42.7m).
Is Fofana a Priority for Liverpool?
Liverpool’s interest in Fofana first surfaced last month via CaughtOffside, and the youngster is now firmly on their radar as the club aims to outmaneuver Premier League rivals for his signature.
Fofana, who mainly operates on the left wing, scored 11 goals and registered six assists in 41 appearances for Lyon last season. Talent scout Jacek Kulig highlighted his standout dribbling skills, particularly his success in one-on-one situations. FBref statistics show he averages 6.72 progressive carries per match, ranking him in the top 2% among players in his position across Europe’s top leagues.
Currently, Liverpool have sufficient options on the left with Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz, so there’s no urgent need for another winger. However, with Diaz’s future uncertain, Fofana could become a more pressing target if the Colombian departs.
Given the recent change in representation and Lyon’s financial woes, a summer exit for Fofana seems likely—but whether his next destination is Anfield remains to be seen in the coming weeks
