Ibrahima Konaté Bids Farewell to Liverpool, Set to Join Real Madrid and Reunite with Trent Alexander-Arnold
After much speculation, Ibrahima Konaté has reportedly decided to leave Liverpool, with plans to reunite with former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid.
Spanish outlet Marca reports that Real Madrid have been quietly working behind the scenes to secure the 27-year-old French defender. Although Konaté’s current deal with Liverpool runs until June 2026, talks over a new contract have stalled. Madrid sees him as a natural long-term replacement for veteran defender David Alaba and has now accelerated negotiations.
Konaté shared a heartfelt message with Liverpool fans:
“Liverpool has given me unforgettable memories, silverware, and incredible teammates. But now, I’m ready for a new chapter. I’m especially looking forward to playing alongside Trent again in Madrid.”
Since joining Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £36 million, Konaté has made over 120 appearances and played a key role in the team’s defense. After overcoming early injury setbacks, he featured 42 times last season, helping the Reds challenge for multiple titles.
Real Madrid is expected to finalize the deal soon, positioning Konaté as a central figure in their evolving defense. He will join a formidable backline that already includes Antonio Rüdiger, David Alaba, Kylian Mbappé, and most recently, Trent Alexander-Arnold.
