Liverpool are stepping up their search for a potential replacement for Jarell Quansah, with journalist Fabrizio Romano confirming that Marc Guehi is now a serious candidate.
The Crystal Palace skipper, who missed only four league games last season and played a crucial role in their FA Cup success, is being closely considered as talks with Bayer Leverkusen about Quansah continue.
Romano said on his YouTube channel:
“One of the players they’re watching closely — and I can confirm reports from England — is Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace. He’s on Liverpool’s shortlist and is highly rated by sporting director Richard Hughes.”
Guehi, 24, was born in Ivory Coast but represents England at international level. He captained Palace in 44 games last season, including the FA Cup final win at Wembley, proving his reliability and leadership.
Though Chelsea and Newcastle are also interested and have monitored him for some time, Liverpool now appear to be one of the frontrunners in the race for his signature.
Defensive Overhaul Underway at Anfield
This pursuit is part of a broader defensive overhaul led by new head coach Arne Slot, as Quansah is likely to join Leverkusen. His departure would follow Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher, both of whom have already left the club.
Liverpool have already finalized moves for Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen, with a third deal — possibly involving Quansah — currently being discussed.
Guehi brings leadership, consistency, and top-flight experience — qualities Liverpool would value highly if Quansah exits.
