Manchester United’s latest summer signing has described his move to Old Trafford as “a dream come true,” expressing his excitement in his first official comments since completing a £107 million transfer.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are reportedly considering a renewed attempt to sign Kim Min-jae, the South Korean centre-back currently with Bayern Munich. The club had previously shown interest in 2023 but lost out when Bayern activated his £43 million release clause with Napoli.
According to German journalist Christian Falk, both Manchester United and Liverpool are once again monitoring Kim’s situation. Despite a rocky start in Germany, the 28-year-old defender played a key role in Bayern’s Bundesliga title win under new manager Vincent Kompany. However, an Achilles injury towards the end of the season has raised uncertainty about his future at the club.
Kim still has three years left on his contract, but the recent signing of Jonathan Tah could push him down the pecking order. Given United’s defensive gaps—especially after the exits of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans—Kim could be a strong candidate to bolster their back line under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Falk stated that no formal decision has been made regarding Kim’s future. While no negotiations are currently underway, there is reported interest from both Saudi Arabian clubs and Premier League giants.
“There is no agreement in place yet,” Falk noted. “But there are rumours of interest from Manchester United and Liverpool. Bayern are open to a sale, though no official offer has been submitted.”
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano had previously reported that Kim was one of United’s main targets in the summer of 2023, with personal terms allegedly agreed before Bayern secured his signing.
A lot has changed at United since then, including the managerial switch from Erik ten Hag to Ruben Amorim. The new coach favors a three-man defense—a system Kim is familiar with from his international career. He also has past chemistry with Matthijs de Ligt, who joined United from Bayern last summer.
However, United’s top priority at the moment may not be in defense. The club is actively pursuing Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo and is expected to bring in a new number nine before the transfer window closes
