Liverpool Edge Closer to Signing Dream Midfielder Thanks to FSG’s €150m Move
Liverpool may be nearing the signing of a highly-rated midfielder, Christantus Uche, as part of Fenway Sports Group’s (FSG) strategy to expand into multi-club ownership.
Since Michael Edwards returned to FSG as Director of Football Operations, it’s been clear that the owners aim to replicate a multi-club model like other elite football groups. Edwards confirmed that FSG’s intent to acquire another club was one of the reasons behind his return.
While past attempts to purchase Bordeaux and Malaga fell through, reports now indicate that Getafe CF has become the leading candidate for acquisition, with a potential deal worth around €150 million.
If successful, owning Getafe could allow Liverpool to benefit strategically—particularly in talent development and recruitment. Young talents not yet ready for Liverpool’s first team could gain experience and minutes at Getafe.
One standout at Getafe is 22-year-old midfielder Christantus Uche, a 1.90m Nigerian talent who led the club in goal contributions last season (13 total). Technically skilled and versatile, Uche can operate as an attacking midfielder, a box-to-box presence, or even as a striker—his original position during his amateur days just three years ago.
Already on the radar of several top European and Premier League clubs, Uche is seen as an ideal long-term fit for Liverpool. If FSG’s takeover of Getafe is finalized, Liverpool would gain a clearer pathway to secure the services of this emerging star.
