Manchester United are reportedly targeting Rafael Leao, the Portugal international and teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo, for a summer transfer, according to CaughtOffside. After finishing a disappointing 15th in the Premier League, the club is aiming to rebuild its attack.
The report suggests that United have made Leao a top priority to strengthen their wings. They are preparing to submit an initial offer once they finalize outgoing transfers. Manager Ruben Amorim is keen on securing the AC Milan star as part of his squad overhaul.
Among the players expected to leave Old Trafford are Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, often referred to as Cristiano Ronaldo’s protégé. As a result, Leao’s skills and playing style have drawn serious interest from United.
Despite being under contract with AC Milan until 2028 — with a hefty €175 million release clause — the Italian side is reportedly willing to negotiate for a fee around half that amount to allow the 26-year-old to leave.
Manchester United aren’t the only club pursuing Leao. Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona have also shown interest, with the Gunners even engaging in early discussions with his representatives. However, the Red Devils are seen as an appealing destination for the Portuguese forward, though they must raise sufficient funds to proceed with the deal.
Leao had a solid 2024-25 season, registering 12 goals and 13 assists for AC Milan. He also played a key role alongside Ronaldo in helping Portugal secure their second UEFA Nations League title.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a contract extension with Al-Nassr, keeping him at the Saudi club until at least 2027. The 40-year-old has been prolific in Saudi Arabia, scoring 93 goals in 105 games since joining in 2022. Despite his personal success, Ronaldo is still chasing his first major trophy with Al-Nassr. He will now play under a new manager following Stefano Pioli’s departure to Fiorentina ahead of the 2025-26 season
