OFFICIAL: Darren Fletcher Appointed as Manchester United’s Under-18 Lead Coach
Manchester United have confirmed that former midfielder Darren Fletcher will now take charge as the lead coach of the club’s Under-18s team. This marks a significant step in Fletcher’s post-playing career as he takes on a more hands-on role in the development of United’s next generation of stars.
Fletcher, who made over 340 appearances for the club during a 20-year association as a player, returned to Old Trafford in 2021 in a technical director capacity. Now, he’s set to play a direct role on the training ground, nurturing young talents as they look to make the step up into senior football.
Fletcher said:
“I am really excited to take on this new role and increase my responsibility to directly develop our young players. I’ve always been passionate about youth development, and having come through the academy myself, I understand the values, expectations, and traditions of this football club.”
“I’m particularly looking forward to working with such a talented age group. My aim is to help them reach their full potential—not just as footballers, but as individuals—while preparing them for long and successful careers, ideally here at Manchester United or at the highest level of the game.”
This move reinforces United’s ongoing commitment to youth development, a pillar of the club’s identity since the days of the Busby Babes and the Class of ’92.
Wishing you all the best, Fletch, as you help shape United’s future stars!
