Al Hilal Target Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez as Backup for Osimhen – Inzaghi Makes Personal Request

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is being considered by Al Hilal as a backup option if their move for Victor Osimhen doesn’t happen, according to a report from Saudi outlet Arriyadiyah. The Saudi club, now managed by Simone Inzaghi, has reached out to Liverpool in recent days to discuss the possibility of signing the Uruguayan forward.

Inzaghi is said to have personally requested Nunez as a potential signing. Though Osimhen remains their main target, the club is preparing alternatives and could act quickly if that deal falls apart.

Nunez, who is under contract with Liverpool until 2028, has had an inconsistent time at Anfield. He scored only five Premier League goals last season and has often looked out of sync with the team. With Arne Slot taking over and favoring other options like Luis Diaz in the striker role, Nunez’s future seems unclear.

Since joining from Benfica in 2022 for a fee that could reach £85 million, Nunez has contributed 40 goals and 22 assists in 143 appearances. However, his lack of consistent starts and a reported decision not to activate an appearance-related bonus hints that Liverpool may be open to selling him.

If a deal with Al Hilal goes through, Liverpool could receive a significant transfer fee, which might help them rebuild their attack — especially if Luis Diaz also leaves. Players like Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike have been mentioned as possible replacements.

With no new forwards signed yet this summer, and pre-season already underway, Liverpool will likely need to make some quick decisions to strengthen their squad. Whether or not Nunez stays could play a big role in shaping their attack for the upcoming season.
