In a stunning admission, Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas has revealed that Victor Gyokeres will travel to London on July 15, 2025, to complete his Arsenal medical. After weeks of resistance, Varandas finally conceded:“I really wanted to frustrate his career, but I’ve given up already.”
The breakthrough follows Arsenal’s improved offer—€65 million plus €15 million in bonuses—which finally persuaded Sporting to part with their star striker. Gyokeres, who netted 54 goals in 52 games last season, had been pushing hard for the move, even skipping training sessions in frustration.
Varandas, speaking to Portuguese outlet Record, acknowledged Gyokeres’ unwavering desire to join Arsenal:
“He’s made it clear Arsenal is his dream, and we can’t stand in his way forever.”
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has described the deal as “imminent”, with Gyokeres set to take over the No.9 shirt at Arsenal, replacing the outgoing Gabriel Jesus.
Gyokeres is expected to join Arteta’s squad for pre-season in Spain, bringing his physicality, clinical finishing, and pressing ability to the team. Arsenal fans online are celebrating the signing, calling him “the missing piece” in their push to close the gap on last season’s champions, Liverpool.
With the medical set for tomorrow, Gyokeres’ Arsenal debut could come sooner than expected.
