FIFA Sparks Outrage After Stripping Man Utd, Liverpool & Man City of World Titles

In a bold and controversial move, FIFA has reportedly erased Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City’s Club World Cup titles from the record books. The governing body’s recent decision marks a dramatic shift in how the competition’s history is acknowledged.
In a major rebrand of the Club World Cup, FIFA has introduced several sweeping changes: expanding the tournament to 32 teams, implementing tougher qualification standards, and offering a massive £125 million prize for the champions.
However, the biggest shock comes from FIFA’s declaration that Chelsea are now officially recognized as the “first-ever” Club World Cup winners, following their 3-0 triumph over PSG at MetLife Stadium. This controversial announcement essentially wipes out all past winners from official recognition.
Instead, clubs such as Liverpool (2019), Manchester United (2008), Manchester City (2023), Real Madrid, and Barcelona will now be classified merely as “FIFA Intercontinental Champions” — a clear downgrade from their previous status as world champions.
Although the tournament has existed since 2000 and was held annually from 2005 to 2023, FIFA now appears to be resetting its history, similar to when the European Cup was rebranded as the UEFA Champions League in 1992. A new trophy seems to signal a new era, and with that, a controversial rewriting of past glory.
FIFA further reinforced this narrative by posting a picture of Chelsea lifting the trophy with the caption: “The first ever FIFA CWC Champions.”
While Real Madrid previously dominated the competition with five titles, followed by Barcelona with four, and Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Corinthians with two each, those achievements now sit in a new, diminished category.
