Barcelona defender Jules Kounde has shared his admiration for new teammate Marcus Rashford, who recently arrived on loan from Manchester United. In a pre-season interview ahead of Barça’s friendly with FC Seoul, Kounde spoke warmly about Rashford’s character and his efforts to help the English forward feel at home in Spain.
“It’s great to see him smiling again,” Kounde said. “He’s positive in training and seems more comfortable each day. You can tell he’s starting to enjoy himself.”
Kounde revealed a personal connection with Rashford, noting similarities in their personalities. “He reminds me of myself—quiet off the pitch, but expressive and alive during games,” the Frenchman explained.
Rashford’s move to Barcelona came after a rough patch at Manchester United, where inconsistent form and external pressure plagued his season. Now, a change of scenery appears to be rejuvenating his confidence.
As one of the few English speakers in the squad, Kounde has taken it upon himself to support Rashford’s transition. “I help him as much as I can,” he said, emphasizing that the whole team has embraced the forward. “That’s what Barça is all about—supporting each other.”
Rashford has made an early impression during Barça’s tour of Asia, showing flashes of the explosive form that once made him a star. Manager Hansi Flick has praised his versatility, calling him a strong addition to the squad. “He has the quality to compete and will be important throughout the season,” Flick noted.
With guidance from Flick and encouragement from teammates like Kounde, Rashford could be poised for a career resurgence. Former Barça legend Rivaldo also expressed optimism, saying Rashford has all the tools to succeed—“pace, intelligence, and experience.”
