Barcelona’s iconic stadium is taking shape on paper but in reality, the road home is still filled with detours. The club has officially confirmed that this year’s Joan Gamper Trophy will be hosted at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, a symbolic reminder that the grand reopening of Camp Nou remains just out of reach.
Montjuïc has been completely ruled out for the Gamper, and the target date for the big return is now set for mid-to-late September 2025. Even then, fans should expect a work-in-progress major construction will continue well into the 2025/26 campaign.
The main focus over the next two years will be the completion of the third tier and the installation of the full stadium roof, scheduled for the summer break between the 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons.
While the renderings showcase a dazzling, modernized home fit for the world’s game, the reality is that timelines have shifted more than once and many culers are beginning to wonder if 2027 will finally be the year the dream is fully realized.
For now, patience remains the biggest ask. But when the gates finally open, Camp Nou’s rebirth promises to be worth every day of waiting.
