Barcelona forward set to undergo tests after fresh injury; doubt for Atletico Madrid game

Barcelona’s recent 1-0 loss at home to Leganés was a tough result, but the defeat was made worse by an injury to their star forward, Lamine Yamal.

In the 15th minute, Yamal was the victim of a rough tackle by Neyou, who targeted his right ankle—an area already affected by injury this season.

Despite clear signs of discomfort, Yamal continued to play for another 50 minutes, even after being assessed at halftime.

However, his performance was below his usual standards; he avoided the ball more than usual and switched from his typical right-wing role to a less effective central position.

Yamal to undergo further tests
According to Diario AS, Yamal is set to undergo more medical tests on Monday to assess the condition of his right ankle.

This latest injury is particularly worrying as it follows a previous grade-one syndesmosis injury to the same ankle, which he sustained against Red Star on November 6. That injury had kept him sidelined for two to three weeks, causing him to miss key matches against Real Sociedad, Celta de Vigo, and Brest.

Will Yamal be ready for Atlético Madrid?
With Barcelona’s crucial match against Atlético Madrid just a few days away, it seems unlikely that Yamal will be fit in time for the game, which will be the final match of 2024. The club is preparing for the possibility that he may not recover in time for this key encounter.

Yamal’s absence could be a significant blow for Barcelona, especially given how the team has struggled in his absence.
