Alexis Mac Allister drops early Liverpool team news hint after Arne Slot cryptic message

Alexis Mac Allister is in contention to play for the first time after serving a suspension in two competitions, as Liverpool face Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has hinted at a potential return to action ahead of Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Southampton. The Argentine has missed the Reds’ last two matches, including their Champions League win over Girona, due to a suspension.

Mac Allister was sidelined after picking up a third yellow card in the Champions League clash with Real Madrid, which led to a ban. He was also suspended for the Premier League after earning a fifth yellow card in the dramatic draw with Newcastle United.

This suspension occurred two weeks ago, and Mac Allister was expected to return for Liverpool’s match against Fulham. However, the postponement of the Merseyside derby means he hasn’t played in 14 days.

The midfielder dropped a hint on social media, sharing a graphic previewing the upcoming Carabao Cup match. While it’s possible that someone else is managing his social media accounts, the timing of the post suggests he could be ready for a return, especially with an opportunity to get match minutes as manager Jürgen Klopp has suggested.

Klopp indicated in a pre-match press conference that he would need to rotate his squad due to ongoing injuries and suspensions. Key players like Ibrahima Konaté, Conor Bradley, and Kostas Tsimikas are sidelined, although Tsimikas has returned to training. Andy Robertson will miss the game due to suspension.

Klopp also mentioned that not all starters would feature in the match, and those who do may not play the full 90 minutes. He noted the importance of managing minutes and making tactical decisions regarding substitutions, as only five substitutions are allowed per match.
