Rio Ngumoha has reflected on his dramatic last-minute goal that secured Liverpool’s 3-2 Premier League victory over Newcastle on Monday night.

“Throughout last season, both the Academy and first-team coaches constantly told me, ‘Make the back post, make the back post,’” Ngumoha explained. “So the fact that I actually made that run is just incredible. When I saw Mo [Salah] and Dom [Szoboszlai] set it up with that clever pass through the legs, I found myself one-on-one and I just struck it.”

He added, “Hearing the fans shout my name was absolutely sensational. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.”

Ngumoha also stressed the importance of staying grounded. “You can’t get too carried away with all the noise,” he said. “I’ve probably finished like that a hundred times in training, so doing it in a match isn’t different. But having the fans cheering you on in that moment—it’s just unbelievable.”
