Sky Sports has delivered a fresh update on Alexander Isak’s potential transfer to Liverpool, describing Newcastle United’s situation as increasingly “desperate.”
Isak is pushing hard to force through a move to Anfield. The Swedish striker has refused to play for Newcastle and even released a statement accusing the club of breaking promises about his future. Liverpool still see him as their marquee signing, although their opening bid of £110 million was rejected, and no new offer has been submitted yet.
While other names—such as Real Madrid’s Rodrygo—have been linked to the Reds, reports confirm that manager Arne Slot’s main priority remains Isak.
For Newcastle, the biggest obstacle has been finding a replacement for their star forward. They placed a £150 million valuation on Isak and repeatedly stressed they do not want to sell. However, their efforts to secure reinforcements have been unsuccessful. Moves for Benjamin Sesko, Hugo Ekitike, Joao Pedro, and Liam Delap have all collapsed.
Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie explained:
“Underlying all of this—and this has been true for weeks—is that Newcastle are desperate when it comes to replacements. They tried for Sesko and Ekitike, even watched Ekitike score against them for Liverpool at St James’ Park, but missed out. They also failed to land Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. If they manage to bring in one or two strikers, then there’s a real chance Isak leaves before the deadline.”
With the transfer window closing soon, the saga is approaching its decisive stage. Liverpool currently have just four senior forwards available, raising doubts about whether they can compete on all fronts without strengthening.
The next move rests with manager Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes. If Liverpool hesitate any longer, they risk losing out on their top target in what has become one of the most dramatic transfer sagas of the summer.
