Liverpool have sealed the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a record-breaking £125 million deal, making him the most expensive player in Premier League history.
The 24-year-old Swedish striker, regarded as Arne Slot’s priority target, has penned a six-year contract at Anfield. Newcastle will ultimately receive £130m, after Isak agreed to forgo his solidarity payment to ensure the transfer went through.
A Turbulent Transfer Battle
Liverpool initially saw a £110m offer rejected, with Eddie Howe adamant that Isak was not for sale. However, the forward forced Newcastle’s hand by refusing to train or play, publicly accusing the club of breaking promises. His stance pushed the Magpies into accepting Liverpool’s final offer on Deadline Day.
Strengthening the Champions
Isak’s arrival follows Liverpool’s £116m capture of Florian Wirtz earlier this summer. The club has also bolstered the squad with Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Hugo Ekitike, and Giovanni Leoni. In addition, Marc Guehi is set to complete his move from Crystal Palace after passing a medical.
