Martin Zubimendi Hints at Potential Liverpool Move After Summer Rejection
Martin Zubimendi has reignited speculation about a possible transfer to Liverpool with recent comments that suggest the door to Anfield may still be open.
The Real Sociedad midfielder had turned down the opportunity to join Liverpool this past summer, opting instead to remain at his boyhood club, where he prioritized personal growth and the team’s future plans over the allure of a move to Merseyside. It wasn’t something I had planned,” he admitted. “It was an uncomfortable time for me, but after weighing the pros and cons, I decided that staying was the best option.”
He also expressed his belief that opportunities don’t always have to be rushed: “I don’t believe in ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunities. If you’re good and want to achieve something, it will come to you. There’s no need to rush.”
Though Zubimendi affirmed his commitment to Real Sociedad, his words left open the possibility of a future move: “I stayed because I knew this season would be important for me, and I still had steps to take. There were many reasons for my decision, but I was selfish and thought about what was best for me. And that was staying.”
Zubimendi’s Future: Will He Leave Sociedad?
According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, Zubimendi’s departure from Real Sociedad next summer is now seen as a growing possibility. “Multiple well-placed sources believe Martin Zubimendi is coming to terms with the idea of leaving Real Sociedad, and they anticipate that happening next summer,” Ornstein reported.
While it’s still possible that the midfielder could opt to stay, the current tone of the discussions suggests a move is more likely than before.

Should Liverpool decide to pursue Zubimendi again, his arrival would significantly strengthen their already impressive midfield.
