Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca expressed his satisfaction with the team’s 0-0 draw against Everton at Goodison Park. Although Chelsea missed several chances to secure a win, Maresca praised Everton’s strong defensive display.
“I’m very happy with the result,” Maresca said in his post-match comments. “I told the players that I’m actually more pleased today than I was after the Brentford game. We knew it would be tough, as Everton has one of the best defensive records in Europe. They make it hard to create opportunities, and we had to adjust our approach.”
Asked about Chelsea’s tactics in the second half, Maresca acknowledged the challenge of breaking down Everton’s defense. “We knew it would be difficult to generate chances, but we tried to improve our attacking play after halftime. Enzo Fernandez moved into a more offensive role, and we made other changes, but we couldn’t find a goal. Nevertheless, I’m proud of how the players adapted and continued to push until the final whistle.”
Maresca also singled out Tosin Adarabioyo for his solid performance, especially a crucial block that denied Everton a goal. “Tosin was excellent, and the whole defense was strong. Keeping a clean sheet is vital, especially with our injury situation. The players showed great resilience, and we can build on this.”
He also praised goalkeeper Robert Sanchez for his important saves during the game. “Robert did well, even though he didn’t have to make many saves. We’re happy with his contribution, and it’s clear his hard work in training is showing.”
Maresca noted the difficult, windy conditions that made it hard for both teams to play their preferred style. “It was a different kind of match, with long balls, second balls, and set pieces. Our players showed great adaptability and unity, which was impressive. We’ll take the point and look ahead to the next match.”
