Enzo Maresca Prepares Alejandro Garnacho for Chelsea Debut as £40m Transfer Reality Emerges

Chelsea could hand Alejandro Garnacho his debut this weekend as they travel to Brentford for their Premier League clash. The £40 million signing from Manchester United is expected to bolster Enzo Maresca’s attacking options immediately, giving the Blues added firepower for the season ahead.

Chelsea legend Dennis Wise believes the squad is strong enough to compete for the Premier League title, with Garnacho potentially playing a key role. The Blues have started the season well, earning two wins and a draw from their opening three matches. In his debut season, Maresca already secured the Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup, and Wise is eager to see the team build on that momentum.

“The confidence Chelsea gained from winning the Club World Cup and the Conference League has put them in a strong position to compete,” Wise said. “I watched some of the games at the Club World Cup with FIFA, and Chelsea performed exceptionally well. Despite expectations that PSG would dominate, Chelsea held their own and carried that momentum into the new season.”

Wise also praised Chelsea’s recruitment strategy, noting that the club has made not just good signings, but outstanding ones. “Expectations are higher now. With the trophies they’ve won and the money spent, there’s pressure to keep competing and winning,” he added. He highlighted striker Liam Delap as a prime example: “Delap, a £20 million signing, is still young but has already shown he can score in the Premier League. Scoring twelve goals for a relegated team is impressive, and his hold-up play is excellent. Chelsea took full advantage of his situation.”
