Jude Bellingham has come to the defense of his former teammate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, after the right-back was booed by sections of the Anfield crowd during his return with Real Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold, who left Liverpool in the summer to join the Spanish giants, was met with jeers when he came off the bench. However, Bellingham insists that the reaction does not reflect how Liverpool fans truly feel about their former vice-captain.
“I heard it. It’s one of those things in football,” Bellingham explained. “The fans booing isn’t a reflection of how they feel about him. They’re just trying to give their team an edge and maybe throw him off a bit. I’m sure they still appreciate everything he did for the club. He loves Liverpool a lot — I know that from speaking to him.”
When asked whether he believes the fans will eventually show more appreciation, Bellingham suggested time may heal the momentary tension. “Perhaps so. When he won the league and last season too, they gave him a good send-off from what I saw. They were just doing their job as fans, I suppose.”
