Zinedine Zidane has given football fans a major hint about his long-anticipated return to management.
The French legend has been away from coaching since leaving Real Madrid for a second time in May 2021. Over the years, he has been linked with various managerial roles across Europe, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Marseille, and Fenerbahce, but has resisted the call to return to the touchline.
In 2022, Zidane explained that he had no immediate plans to coach in England due to language barriers. Speculation has also surrounded a potential role as the head coach of the France national team, with Didier Deschamps, his former teammate, set to step down after the 2026 World Cup.
Reports suggested that if Zidane were to make a comeback, he would likely consider only two options: the France national team or a third spell at Real Madrid. There had even been whispers that he might retire from management altogether.
However, as he prepares to feature in an upcoming charity match, Zidane has confirmed that his return to coaching is imminent. Speaking at the Trento Sports Festival last month, he told reporters, “It will happen soon. Very soon.”
Although he did not reveal which club or team he will manage first, he expressed a clear desire to lead the France national team one day. He also reflected on past links with Juventus, the club where he played from 1996 to 2001, noting his fondness for the Italian side despite a managerial role never materializing.
“I’d like to be the head coach of the France team one day,” Zidane said. “I will surely return to coaching. Me at Juventus? I don’t know why it didn’t happen. I always keep that team in my heart because it gave me a lot.”
