A former Liverpool footballer who famously clashed with Steven Gerrard during their time at Anfield is now reportedly at risk of receiving a prison sentence.
During the period when Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher were the dominant leaders in the Liverpool dressing room, both demanded unwavering standards from their teammates. Gerrard has often spoken about how closely he observed new signings in training, regularly praising players such as Xabi Alonso and Luis Suárez for their instant impact and professionalism.
However, one player he openly admitted he never connected with was El Hadji Diouf. The Senegalese forward arrived from Lens in 2002 for £10 million following a standout World Cup, but his time at Liverpool was marked by controversy and underwhelming performances. His attitude, both on and off the pitch, disappointed many within the club.
In his 2015 autobiography, Gerrard described Diouf as the signing he liked the least, reflecting on the forward’s behaviour and lack of commitment. According to Gerrard, Diouf showed little interest in the club, the supporters, or even the game itself, focusing instead on his own image without the performances to support it.
